The first movement `Rome-Palermo` evokes the sights and sounds of these major Italian centers with a tune that matches the regional flair.
Tunis-Nefta brings sailors ashore in North Africa; timpani and pulsating strings create a hypnotic rhythm while the oboe imitates the chromatic improvisations of local reed instruments.
`Valencia` a seething dance scene completes the suite with a vivid depiction of Spanish culture.
