Kodaly completed the orchestral version of Missa Brevis at the height of the 2nd World War (1944). It is a tribute to the courage of the Hungarian people in resisiting the forces of the Nazis. Kodaly recorded his moving version of the Mass in 1956. Budapest chorus and Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra.
