Pēteris Vasks (born 1946, Aizpute) is a Latvian composer.

In his early work, he developed the aleatoric and sonoristic traditions of Lutosławski and Penderecki. Vasks`s style, which finally took shape in the 1980s, combines the traditions of Latvian musical culture with elements of the so-called ecological movement.
He composed in various genres and for various performing groups, including for orchestra (3 symphonies: 1991, 1998, 2005), choir (Pater noster, 1991; Dona nobis pacem, 1996; Mass, 2000, 2005 - all to traditional Catholic texts), for violin and orchestra (violin concerto `Distant Light`, 1997), for organ (`Song to the World`, 1984; Te Deum, 1991), for piano (`Music of Autumn`, 1981; `Landscapes of the Scorched Earth`, 1992; `Music of Spring`, 1995).
