The inspiration for the piece came from an image the composer describes as an angel hovering above the world looking down on a devastated Earth with tears in his eyes but bringing comfort and healing with the touch of his wings.
Originally the fifth movement of String Quartet No. 4 1999 Vasks reworked it in 2006 as a meditation for violin and string orchestra. The solo violin in this piece symbolizes the angel himself.
The trio version was written in 2019 at the suggestion of the ensemble `Trio Palladio`.
