Written as `Farewell to the Grand Duchess of Russia` and dedicated to Paisiello`s student Grand Duchess Maria Feodorovna wife of the future Emperor Paul I. The composer presented this musical gift before his departure from Russia back to Italy after completing his service at the court of the Russian Empress Catherine II.
It is included in the authors collection Raccolta di varii rondeaux e capricci Collection of various rondos and capriccios published around 1783.
