The suite is based on poems by Hjalmar Gullberg from his 1933 collection of the same name.
The plot is based on the ancient Greek myth of Apollo whom Zeus banished to Earth as punishment. The god lives among people in human form disguised as an ordinary shepherd for King Admetus and no one suspects his divine nature.
The main idea is that among us in the form of a poor person or a wanderer a god may be hiding therefore every person deserves respect.
