`Aucassin and Nicolette` is an anonymous French literary work from the early 13th century. It is the only surviving work of the unique cantefable genre song-tale in which prose excerpts alternate with verse inserts intended to be sung.
The story tells of the love between Aucassin the son of Count Garin de Beaucaire and Nicolette a Saracen slave of unknown origin bought from pirates.
