The virtuoso inserted aria was created especially for the composer’s younger brother, the legendary castrato singer Farinelli (Carlo Broschi).
It offers the opportunity to showcase a performer`s phenomenal range, coloratura technique, and incredible breath. It achieved cult status thanks to the film `Farinelli, Castrato` (1994).
Built on the metaphor of the soul overcoming life`s storms, like a ship in a stormy sea, it is written in da capo form, which suggests virtuoso improvisations during the repetition of the first part.
