The concert was originally conceived for the British ensemble London Brass Virtuosi. The project later expanded, and the joint commission included the Finnish brass band Sisu, the Helsinki Guard Band, and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
Instead of a classical orchestra, Aho uses an expanded brass section of a symphonic composition, adding two saxophones (alto and tenor), a baritone horn and a part of three percussionists.
