L`Aurora Ingannata is a historically significant musical and dramatic work with a libretto by Count Ridolfo Campeggi. It is considered the first Bolognese opera and the fourth opera in the history of music.
The work was originally a cycle of four interludes (musical pauses) for Campeggi`s pastoral play Filarmindo.
The libretto is based on the classic mythological story of the goddess of the dawn, Aurora (Eos), and her lover, the hunter Cephalus.
The libretto was published in 1608 under the title `L`Aurora ingannata.` Giacobbi`s music itself was published in Venice that same year in a collection titled `Dramatodía,` which translates as `dramatic singing.`
