Metropolitan Opera, New York, live relay February 14th, 2015. Nadja Michael is the unwitting victim of the diabolical Bluebeard, played by Mikhail Petrenko. The opera was directed by Mariusz Trelinski, who was inspired by classic noir films of the 1940s. The conductor was Valery Gergiev.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marin Alsop. Composed in 1980, this delightful work by Bernstein is in 8 short movements: Sennets and Tuckets, Waltz, Mazurka, Samba, Turkey Trot, Sphinxes, Blues and In Memoriam (March: the BSO Forever). BSO is Boston Symphony Orchestra, as the work was written for their centenary.

Stravinsky Igor — K015 Ballet `The Rite of Spring`s` (1913/1947/1967)

This is the 1953 mono recording Dorati made of the `rite` with this orchestra. The performance is abrasive, sharp and very powerful. Transferred from the Mercury Livinng Presence vinyl LP (so please excuse the occasional penetration of surface noise in the quiter moments - its well worth it to experience this amazing interpretation!)

Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra. Dorati recorded the `Rite` twice with this orchestra and this 1959 stereo recording on Mercury Living Presence is regarded as the greatest of all `Rite` recordings. Brutal, pagan, violent and totally overwhelming. no other performance comes close!
