The series is inspired by impressions from a visit to Kyoto`s Zen gardens in the summer of 1993.
The work consists of six parts each named after a specific garden
1. Tenju-an Tenju-an Garden of Nanzen-ji Temple - an introduction introducing the main instruments.
2. Kinkaku-ki `Many Pleasures` - a faster and rhythmically complex movement with an airy cymbal sound.
3. Tenryu-ji Dry Mountain Stream - an energetic piece using wood stone and leather.
4. Ryoan-ji Ryoanji Rock Garden is the longest and most meditative part of the cycle.
5. Saiho-ji Moss Garden of Saiho-ji - focuses on coloristic nuances.
6. Daisen-in Stone Bridges
