The virtuoso inserted aria was created especially for the composers younger brother the legendary castrato singer Farinelli Carlo Broschi.
It offers the opportunity to showcase a performer`s phenomenal range coloratura technique and incredible breath. It achieved cult status thanks to the film `Farinelli Castrato` 1994.
Built on the metaphor of the soul overcoming life`s storms like a ship in a stormy sea it is written in da capo form which suggests virtuoso improvisations during the repetition of the first part.
