Based on the farce of the same name by Fernand Crommelynck.
Jealous of his wife Stella Bruno first locks her up forces her to wear an ugly mask and so on. But these measures are insufficient as they only control reality while fantasy thoughts and dreams is unaffected by such measures. Therefore the hero prefers to transfer the possibility of infidelity to the realm of reality and demands that his wife commit adultery with individuals he specifies. The comedy`s denouement is the wife`s flight convinced of her hopelessness.
