An anti-war song based on lyrics by B. Brecht, written in the USA for radio broadcasts aimed at Germany during World War II.
The song lists the gifts a soldier sends his wife from occupied countries: shoes from Prague, a silk dress from Oslo, lace from Brussels, etc. In the final verse, when the war reaches Russia, the wife receives the final `gift` - a widow`s shroud.
