This CD features Armenian songs performed by Komitas and his friend and student Armenak Shahmuradian, recorded in Paris in 1912. Komitas` creative work played a crucial role in the formation of the national school of composition. His works, mostly vocal, opened up new ways of using folk music. His compositions include songs for voice, tragic monologues, a capella choirs, ritual paintings, epic-heroic cycles, solo and choral arrangements of highland patriotic songs, musical miniatures and instrumental pieces. Komitas` last words were: `May my people live forever - I will always live in their memory.`
